DR CHARLOTTE WHITELEY
Registered chartered psychologist, founder and clinical director
Dr Charlotte Whiteley is founder and clinical director of the Mindful Psychology Practice. Dr Charlotte Whiteley writes:
“Having practiced Buddhism and meditation since I was in my teens, I have a deep understanding of the benefits of practicing meditation and compassion to self and others. I have brought these teachings into my roles as a psychologist within the NHS working with individuals, groups and couples. I believe passionately that human distress needs to be shared rather than experienced alone and it is because of this that I have set up the Mindful Psychology Practice, which fuses buddhist philosophies with evidence based psychological therapies whilst providing space for people to share their distress with another human/humans.
I believe that our thoughts, feelings, desires, conflicts, sadness, despair (and all that brings us to therapy) happen for good reason and that these experiences needs exploring, diving into and understanding in order to bring about therapeutic change and growth.
Within the NHS, I have worked within an anxiety and depression service, an OCD service, a gender identity clinic, an eating disorder service and a physical health service, holding a senior and lead role. I also hold a position within academia as a lecturer, clinical and research supervisor on a doctoral programme.”
